I’m delighted to announce that I have been awarded the inaugural Rita Cheeseman award for Heritage Interpretation. This annual award is presented by the Merseyside Civic Society in honour of Rita who was a Blue Badge Guide in Liverpool and was passionate about meeting people and showing them our city heritage. It was decided that the qualification should be given to one of the newly qualified Blue Badge Guides from the 2013 course. The citation explained that the selection was based on showing individuality in my interview, generosity to course-mates and strong performance on the practical exams. The award was presented by Pam Wilsher, Head of Visitor Economy for the Liverpool Local Enterprise Partnership. I was thrilled to receive the award and enjoyed hearing about Rita’s talents and enthusiasm which I hope I will continue to emulate over my career as a Tourist Guide.
